Their Story

Describe your life before you had Weight Loss Surgery.

Life before weight loss surgery was always a bit challenging. It was a giant game of problem solving; what clothing do I fit in today or what can I wear to this event. I remember figuring out excuses to not go to work volunteering activities because we had to wear provided polo shirts oh, and let’s not forget the beach and pool parties that happened every weekend of my twenties. I missed out on so many things because of my weight. Avoiding situations that would make me very aware of my physical presence was my number one goal.

How long were you considering Weight Loss Surgery before you came in?

My husband treated me to a big vacation for my 40th birthday in 2018. We had a great time but i wasn’t feeling very well for a lot of it. A few months later I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes. That changed my life. I was put on lots of medication that always made me feel crummy. I tried so hard to lose weight to get my numbers under control. I failed at that, just like I had all the years before. I never considered bypass, always assuming i didn’t qualify. Well then i seriously looked into it and decided it was the answer I needed.

What was it like to work with our team?

Del Mar surgical is wonderful. Dr. Bhoyrul and Nurse Kirsten, along with the entire staff, are so kind and warm. They have truly set me up for success, and I cannot be more thankful. Describe your life now, after Weight Loss Surgery. Life is so fun now. I don’t hold back when adventures come up. My husband and I go on hikes and walks on the beach, bike and scooter rides and I go in the pool when we go on camping trips and vacations. I participate in everything I can. We have so much fun together. He had to do so many of these things alone before as I always opted out. This is the life I wanted. To live it to the fullest, with someone who loved me regardless of what I weighed and pushes me to try all the things.
