Dr. Sunil Bhoyrul is the Chief of Surgery at Olde Del Mar Surgical and the Medical Director for Bariatric Surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital. Additionally, he is considered by many patients and doctors to be one of the best general and bariatric surgeons in San Diego.

Dr. Bhoyrul completed his undergraduate and medical school at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He then began his surgical training in London, England and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of England in 1993. He was fellowship-trained in Advanced laparoscopic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco before completing his Surgical Residency at Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. Bhoyrul performs surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital and Sharp Coronado Hospital. He specializes in advanced minimally invasive gastrointestinal and weight loss surgery. He has a special interest in gastrointestinal oncology and is one of only a small number of surgeons that performs resections for pancreatic, gastric, and esophageal cancer.

Dr Bhoyrul is such a nice guy! He is caring and extremely knowledgeable. He spends time with you, explains everything, answers ALL questions, never acts like you’re a dummy. He does many types of abdominal surgeries, spleen, ripped diaphragm, intestine, hernia repair. He knows what he is doing. He wrote the FIRST book on the ‘Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery!!!!!’ He pretty much saved my life when my diaphragm split and my stomach traveled completely into my chest. I had a car crash and tore the diaphragm open again. If I have to have it repaired, Dr Bhoyrul will be the one to do it. He is a genuinely nice person besides being an extremely well-educated surgeon!

I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Bhoyrul and his staff. They are dedicated, but down to earth and easy to talk to. They make me feel like a priority, and continuously put my best interest first. I always have Dr. Bhoyrul and/or Kirsten’s full undivided attention when I am there. I was nervous at first, but after meeting them fear became excitement and my surgery date couldn’t come soon enough. My surgery was a success, I am happily living the life I’ve always wished for, healthy!
