ATTENDING SURGEON
Dr. Bortz is a Board Certified Surgeon with advanced skills in laparoscopic, robotic and bariatric surgery. He earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of California San Diego and received medical school training at Saba University School of Medicine. He pursued a residency in general surgery and began his internship at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York and completed his training in California at UC Riverside Health Systems. He went on to a Minimally Invasive, Bariatric and Robotic fellowship at Maimonides Medical center in Brooklyn where he accomplished a high volume of colorectal, bariatric, hernia, and surgical oncology cases.
During his fellowship, Maimonides Medical Center became the epicenter of Coronavirus and he volunteered to help care for the critically ill Covid patients in the intensive care unit during the peak of the pandemic.
He has presented his research at the American College of Surgeons national conference. Most recently, his project on local anesthetic to improve post-operative pain in bariatric surgery was presented at the SAGES national meeting.
Dr. Bortz lives in University City with his wife and two kids. He enjoys playing tennis, bowling, scuba diving, and cooking.
