My Weight Loss Journal — Whitney H. Explores New Activities
5 months post op…
After the craziness of the holidays, I was really looking forward to having more time to myself and to refocus on working out. Boy, was I wrong. January was just as hectic, if not more! We started out the New Year by heading up to Big Bear. They were expecting a big snowstorm and we couldn’t miss the chance to see snowfall. Unfortunately, we had to leave before it started snowing, but we still had a ton of fun playing in the snow and exploring the town. When the snow finally came, we made the half hour trip to Mount Laguna with Ken’s family to go sledding and make snow angels.
Honestly, at my heavier weight, I wouldn’t have wanted to go. I was very shy and I avoided all physical activity, especially with friends or family because I didn’t want to embarrass myself by how out of shape I was. I missed out on a lot of fun because I felt more comfortable staying home and just watching TV.
I have so much more confidence now and although it can still feel uncomfortable when people praise me for how good I look, it’s reassuring that even though I’m not working out 6-7 days a week, the work I am putting in is still paying off.
I took advantage of a free personal training session at the gym I go to by my house. The trainer measured my body fat and found that it was right in line with what the Tanita scale at work says. She showed me what areas I needed to strengthen and how to stretch out more effectively. The session was very informative, but I think I’ve gotten more out of my training sessions with Mary than I did at the gym. I’m saving my money from an expensive gym and trying to stay consistent with my workout sessions with coworkers after work!
