My Weight Loss Journal — Whitney H. Changes Her Style

4 months post op…

December’s Activities

December was a very busy month for me and my family. It was a whirlwind of birthday celebrations, a baby shower, tamale making, Christmas shopping and, of course, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. With so much going on, I really fell behind on my workouts. I tried to keep my diet in line, but I definitely veered off path because, of course, I had to taste-test my tamales and indulge in some yummy Indian food at our company holiday party. I still managed to continue losing weight and was so happy to fit into my tunic for the holiday party, but going so long without working out made it very hard to get back into a routine after the holidays were over.

I’d always notice when patients came in with shorter hair after surgery and now I understand why. My hair (and my face) was beginning to feel a lot thinner, so I decided to chop off about 6 inches and try out a shorter ‘do, too. I felt like a brand new person and it was so exciting to be able to change my look and style now that I felt more confident with my body.

New Year’s EveWhitney on New Years Eve

I had always stayed in, went to a friend or family member’s house, or even just slept through New Year’s Eve because of my own body image issues… but not this year! We rang in the New Year downtown at a Great Gatsby themed party in the Sofia Hotel. I had so much fun shopping for dresses and felt absolutely beautiful that night. For the first time since I can remember, I was able to wear high heels without my feet killing me after the first 5 minutes walking in them. It was a night to remember and I’m so thankful to have had the surgery when I did because this New Year’s resolution is one I know I will keep!
