Getting ready for the holidays

Many patients have concerns and reasons to be cheerful as we approach the holidays.  On one hand, our patients are thankful that they are so much healthier, and are likely to lose weight during the holidays – something that was not typical before weight loss surgery!  On the other hand, the tendency to eat dry foods, foods high in sugar, or consume unusually large amounts of alcohol can be challenging.

Our advice is – first – don’t be too hard on yourself – we are all human!  Moderation rather than avoidance is more realistic at this time of year.  Second – stop at the earliest warning signs that you may not be tolerating your food/drink.  Finally, if you do overdo it, and don’t feel better after a few hours, call us (you wont be the first) – remember, we are here to help you, not judge you!
